A partnership born in Puerto Vallarta.
PVCA Animal Rescue Society is a registered Canadian charity that facilitates the adoption and fostering of dogs needing a second chance.
In 2007, long-time PV resident Janice Chatterton founded the SPCA PV. The Sanctuary opened in 2012 — a no-kill shelter that could house up to 130 animals. The team quickly realized the scale of pet overpopulation in PV meant they’d never rehome enough dogs locally to keep rescuing.
Through her hotels, Janice connected with Canadians who eventually helped establish a charity in Canada — the partnership that became PVCA. Since then, the SPCA PV sanctuary has weathered two hurricanes and Janice’s passing, rebuilt a smaller shelter, and continued to sponsor free spay and neuter clinics and support local fosters.
Today, every animal we help leaves room for another abused, abandoned, or neglected street dog to take their place at the sanctuary. To follow their work, or to donate directly to the shelter, visit spcapvr.com.
